Supporting Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at Dormston

At Dormston School, we are fully committed to supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and recognise that every pupil is unique and has individual needs and abilities that may require additional support to help them access the curriculum and fully participate in school life.  The Headteacher, Governors, and all staff work together to make sure every pupil feels included, supported, and valued.

We believe that meeting the needs of pupils with SEND is the responsibility of the whole school. Every child or young person deserves a high-quality education that helps them:

  • Achieve their very best and gives them opportunities to succeed
  • Become motivated learners with a passion for learning
  • Grow into confident, independent individuals
  • Prepare for a positive future and make a successful transition into further education, training, or employment

We are committed to providing each pupil with the best possible environment and opportunities for learning.

Our SEND department is  dedicated to providing an enthusiastic, motivated and supportive environment, where students and adults work together to enable everyone to succeed.

Our Aims

We will do everything we can to ensure that pupils with SEND receive the right support to thrive.

We are committed to making sure all pupils with SEND take part in school life, alongside their peers and that they can access all learning experiences and opportunities enabling them to achieve their very best.

We aim to provide access to an inclusive, relevant and stimulating educational experience for all pupils.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that can be adapted to meet individual needs. This may include support for pupils in class, at social times, in small group sessions or on a one-to-one basis dependent upon specific needs and requirements.

Details about how we identify and assess SEND needs can be found in our SEND Information Report and SEND Policy.

At the heart of our approach is a caring and understanding school environment. We know that many pupils, including those with SEND, may face challenges with confidence or self-esteem, so we focus on empathy, encouragement, and positive relationships through the use of a trauma informed approach.

Every young person at Dormston School is valued. Our goal is for all pupils to enjoy success, achieve their full potential, feel proud of what they can accomplish, and become the best version of themselves.

For further information about how we support our SEND pupils, please contact school and ask to speak to either our SENDCO or Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion.
